The headline act. Like the support act Kula Shaker this was another band I was made aware of back at University. Moseley Shoals was released and an A1 size album poster quickly appeared in our flat, my flatmate had that album on repeat, and can you blame him. It was familiar yet unique in sound and everyone was listening to it. I can’t speak for them but I’ve never stopped.
I was a bit eager and after they rightly let the assistance audience in I was first in the venue and front and centre of the barrier. I wanted the full OCS experience as I have missed them before. I got it.

It has been 29 years since that iconic album launch, we have all aged but the voice, the music, the talent has not, such a great night. The songs still stir emotions, they take you back to that time and for those in attendance singing along who were not even born then it means something different but that’s what music is for. This music is timeless.
Simon Fowlers vocals still sound as great as ever and the chants of “Steve-O Steve-O Steve-O” from the crowd obviously deserved by Steve Cradock who is still a master to watch and hear, such a unique sound. I was so central, my view of Oscar was mostly blocked but I could certainly hear him. The rest of the band equally great.

The gig was supported by some great graphics and film mixed with logos and some great nostalgic moments almost documenting past gigs and memories for the fans in attendance.

When it came to the encore, of course ‘The Day We Caught the Train’ was coming, getting Simon Fowler solo acoustic for Robin Hood slipping into Live Forever was perfect as well.
The last time I saw any OCS live was an acoustic session from Simon and Oscar at Bug Jam back in 2012 so this was long overdue. It left me wanting more and I’m eyeing up the next at Summer Sessions already.
