I had not seen Don Broco until this summer, I was aware of the name but they were not in my vinyl collection or even in my algorithm at that time. Then thanks to a support slot a for Biffy Clyro they became part of both when they stole part of that day and became…
Overpass played Vinilo on a very sunny afternoon in Southampton and I’ll sum it up in a single sentence which I said to them, “Now that’s how you do an instore!” A ten song set, the entire new album ‘Elsewhere, Always’ performed by the full band feels almost greedy for an instore but everyone in…
I saw Cast again last night at an outstore through Vinilo Record Store promoting their new album ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’ which reached #8 in the album charts this week. For a band that formed in 1992, 34 years ago that’s a serious accomplishment. Especially in this fickle music streaming based society we live in. That’s…
I dropped in to see Pentire on what was the penultimate show of their tour on a sold out evening at Heartbreakers in Southampton. If you don’t know Heartbreakers it’s a small 100 capacity independent venue almost no stage so you’re eye to eye with the band and it gets hot and loud, perfect! Online…
I’m a sucker for a music documentary, any insight into the workings of musicians processes and methods has always fascinated me. I am a big fan of the Depeche Mode 101 documentary from 1989 which you could say gave me the blueprint for what I want from an ‘insight’ film. Yes, show us the music,…
I’m not going to deny it, I went in tonight uninformed, I went in having Spotifyed (is that a verb?) the first few tracks and thinking ‘YES’ I want to see this band! I mentioned it online on ‘X’ to which Rough Trade answered “We Love Bodega!” As I sat there thinking how did I…
I’ve been trying to find a word to explain the evening and just keep coming back to that simple three letter word ‘WOW’. It’s seems almost disingenuous reducing it to that as it was so much more! I’ve seen Yungblud at live at Bludfest and I’m sold, I’m a fan, I know the energy he…
A quick early instore at Vinilo Record Store in Southampton tonight with The K’s. The band are coming to the end of a tour but still managing to fit in some stripped back instores for fans to promote their soon to be released album titled ‘Pretty on the Internet’. The normal behaviour at these is…
This needs support, local and from industry. A social post / link from one of the local papers appeared on my feed tonight titled as above ‘Campaign to secure future of iconic music venue The Joiners’. This filled me with dread as it’s a venue I have frequented for more years than I’d like to…
I came across this article last night titled ‘Neuroscience Says Music Is an Emotion Regulation Machine. Here’s What to Play for Happiness, Productivity, or Deep Thinking.’ https://www.inc.com/jessica-stillman/the-best-music-for-happiness-productivity-studying/91173726 The stand-first is “Neuroscience shows music has big effects on our productivity, performance, and state of mind. Use that to your advantage.” No offence to the author but…
