I dropped in to see Pentire on what was the penultimate show of their tour on a sold out evening at Heartbreakers in Southampton.
If you don’t know Heartbreakers it’s a small 100 capacity independent venue almost no stage so you’re eye to eye with the band and it gets hot and loud, perfect!
Online there was no support listed on the ticket site, I could have searched? So a bonus to get ‘Wrkhouse’ on first, a Welsh bi-lingual (yes they sang a song in Welsh) crafting alt-pop / indie songs with synth soundscapes, hooks and great melodies. Their pedal boards were pretty impressive too!

A great set by a young band who were on the entire Pentire tour and making the most of it, a sparse crowd initially but soon filled up and the reception was deserved.

Pentire came on just before nine and blasted through a fifteen song set to a captive audience, most singing along word for word, clapping when prompted and jumping and bouncing on command.
The songs came thick and fast only pausing for water due to the heat. The singer Jack Morgan humorously refusing to remove his jumper as he had resigned himself to wearing a Pentire t-shirt underneath, end of your laundry woes to blame.

Pentire is a four-piece indie band from Herefordshire. Listed as known for their “post-jangle” pop, a description I’ve heard before and they certainly live up to that and more but they are as much indie as pop, pop is a term overused just because tracks have upbeat major optimistic chords. It was upbeat, it was optimal at times and rousing, and the crowd was eating it up.
A great weekday evening of music at Heartbreakers as always.
