Yungblud Idols Outstore 15th July 2025

I’ve been trying to find a word to explain the evening and just keep coming back to that simple three letter word ‘WOW’. It’s seems almost disingenuous reducing it to that as it was so much more!

I’ve seen Yungblud at live at Bludfest and I’m sold, I’m a fan, I know the energy he brings to a live show and I’ve seen the socials but seeing him in a small 700 capacity venue was something else.

To set the scene I’ve been seeing gigs at The Engine Rooms in Southampton for many years and usually due to door times and support acts the crowd is a slow build but this needed warnings of don’t queue before 5.30 entrance numbers allocated on arrival doors at 7pm and he’s on at 8.

The queue at 5.30 on driving past was around the corner (we went to the pub for an hour). The noise of excitement from the crowd when we got in there at 6.45 was something else, a level of excitement you don’t witness often. We uncharacteristically opted to stand at the back for a relaxed view tonight.

Yungblud came on to a wall of cheering and intense fandom from a crowd covering a range of generations. It was a fantastic sight. Straight into Hello Heaven and despite the crowd best efforts and singing volume his vocals reached far above that.

Bearing in mind this was just an outstore for his new album and only six songs long he rang every last drop out of each note. This from an artist who had to cancel a gig last week due to tonsillitis.

Idols is a fantastic album of which we now own 3 copies on vinyl, the pre-order, the blood records version and the one we purchased to get the ticket for tonight so I’ve done my part in helping it get the success it deserves.

It was an ‘electric’ night. Like a full gig condensed into 45 minutes but one not to be missed. It was known he’d be doing a walk around at the end outside so to see almost everyone in attendance staying trying to manouvre a play to get a glimpse and an autograph at the end was something to behold there. A true headache for security. He hung out the window from the green room to everyone’s delight then eventually came outside to meet the fans.

The fandom that follows him is all part of it, The Black Hearts club the belief, the community is all something many align themselves with. It’s so much more than just the liking the music which has always been there with artists but not something you see often to this level. It’s great to see that connection for so many.

This album is a change of direction, a growth since the last and I’ll dare to say he is still a rising star, yes he played on the bill with Ozzy Osbourne recently but he’s still in his twenties and the future has so much more to give from this talent and voice. You can see how much he loves it, he feeds off the crowd and gets emotional on stage at what they give back. If you get the chance to see him on his upcoming Idols tour I’d highly recommend it for the experience, as in twenty years time when he’s still commanding audiences like this with what I can only guess at what’s to come in the future you’ll be glad you paid attention early and went along for the ride.

Can’t not mention a thank you to The Engine Rooms for another great night and of course Vinilo Record Store for the Outstore, another fine job as always.
