Fans should be supporting bands at every stage not using TikTok for negativity.
Disliking things without a clear or logical reason is a common mental shortcut. Our brains use hidden gut feelings, past memories, or quick judgments to form a dislike before our conscious mind catches up. Ok you have a reason, it sounds like something else, it’s got obvious similarities or influences from other music therefore it’s ….. poo.
Is it poo? is it jumping on the bandwagon, or is it a trend, every genre and style of music you listen to is influenced by what’s come before and yes some sound like others, we even have revivals.
That is why songs they get traction at a certain time, it fits, but as with anything creative you live and die by the last song your last artwork your last design or your last output. When a sound or genre does well there’s always a grab for more, that’s what fans and record companies are like. If a band hits big but the second album takes time there’s a void that needs filling either by fans or record companies pushing similar to ride that wave.
But back to the only as good as your last song and fan appreciation, if you don’t like a band because they sound similar to something else then don’t listen to them, listen to something you like, it’s a far better use of your time that going online to badmouth and label those trying hard, their next song or album as a band may be awesome and time and growth can facilitate that but your not helping support and lift young artists by labelling and putting them down. There’s music I’m not a fan of but I don’t go online mocking and badmouthing those bands or artists and putting negative thoughts out in the world, they have fans somewhere, respect them.
If you’re not part of the solution you are part of the problem! And if you are doing it from a tiktok channel for likes you are #tiktokpoo
Yes Keo share similarities to Wunderhorse, Bleach 9:3 just look at Pearl Jam or Bush. This is the same way Blink 182 share similarities with Jimmy Eat World but both bands are great and you’ll find the differences.
If people want to listen or go and see any bands live like Garage Flower or Park Drive then great, those gigs all support the small venues and as these bands who put a lot of effort in and maybe influenced by their hero’s, cut their teeth in the fickle music industry, let’s just see where they go as there sounds develop. Or better yet, pick up a guitar, write some songs and show your ‘audience’ what ‘you’ think they should be listening to.
You may think coining the phrase #indiepoo is funny or makes you clever but that’s someone’s dream you’re knocking!
