Last gig of the year last night seeing The Manatees play a hometown headline show at The 1865 in Southampton as the final night of their autumn ‘Consequence’ tour, with support from local bands Oxygen and Sonne.
The Manatees took to the stage just after 9 a delivered a rousing high energy alt-indie set that had the crowd singing along and bouncing. Optimistic on point catchy guitar riffs over a synth and fantastic rhythm section providing groove and funk support. New and old tracks mixed over the set finishing with ‘Better Way to Think of it’ which had the audience in a state of euphoria. That was not the end, it’s Christmas so the band did an encore in Christmas hats and played out with ‘Milan’ to finish wishing everyone festive wishes. A great end to the live musical year.

Second support from Oxygen, an indie band from Portsmouth bringing their own anthemic choruses to the 1865. I’ve seen them before so great to see them again, this time at a larger venue. Four guitars and supporting vocals working in great harmony.
The only downside was the length of the set. I’d like to see a headline from this band for the full experience.
First support from Sonne (pronounced Sonn). A new one for me although they have been playing locally and certainly brought a good following for the night.
Their debut single is up on Spotify now. Musically talented with some great music in their locker and a vocal well beyond the years of the singer. Many influences popped in my head while listening which I’m trying to recall and writing that already has a unique individual sound to it. A great opener for the night.

As always a great night at The 1865 in Southampton and they have a great lineup already fot next year with a few booked in already.
